Our mission is to intervene with safe, powerful, and rapid natural therapies in order to enable the body to overcome obstacles to cure. In this way our patients will feel, live, and be healthier.
In order to achieve this, our practice is not based solely on "pathological" diagnoses of disease. Underlying causes are sought, with due weight given to functional disturbances. Whereas traditional medicine is heavily focused on the diagnosis (and thus intervention) only when cell death has occurred, our approach to naturopathic medicine incorporates the optimization of function to restore health, and thus eradicate disease. There is only one question that is important to us, and that is "how can I most help to improve this patient's life today?"
On your first visit you can expect to meet for a full medical examination. Naturopathic medicine, in seeking underlying functional disturbances, requires a more in depth history, and thus the initial consultation usually lasts from 45 minutes to 90 minutes. Appropriate physical exams will be completed, and any laboratory tests will be brought to your attention, and can be completed at the same time.
If your initial visit is for pain, our clinic will proceed with initial treatment during this time which may include soft tissue work, joint manipulation, acupuncture, or injection therapies. Cases of internal medicine usually require laboratory work to be completed in order to ensure that underlying causes as opposed to symptoms are being treated.
Treatment is a team effort, and involves both hands-on doctor initiatives and patient initiatives. It may include acupuncture, IV injections of high doses of nutrients, chelation therapy, injections of homeopathic and other agents to release pain and initiate cellular healing, herbal medications, and nutritional supplements. Patient initiated treatments may include diet modifications, detoxification programs, exercise, and stress/emotional techniques.
No matter what the diagnosis or the treatment plan, our one and only goal is to have the patient overcome obstacles to cure in order to feel, live, and be healthier.
Often times, it is difficult to know what to expect when visiting a naturopathic clinic, as the profession is extremely diverse. This is where the strength of the profession as a whole lies. Both Dr Tawnya Ward and Dr Eric Chan prefer to take a more interventional stance and as such prefer more innovational therapies. This requires additional post-graduate training aquired in Canada and usually in the US. Because of their active search for continuing education, they have achieved board certifications in chelation therapy, acupuncture, and oxidative medicine.
